An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air. It is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
Most eTA applications are approved within minutes of applying. However, some applications may take several days to process if additional documentation is required. We recommend applying at least 72 hours before your planned travel.
No, an eTA is only required when flying to Canada. If you're driving or arriving by boat, you don't need an eTA, but you may need other documentation depending on your nationality.
